About Me

Hello! I’m Kat (they/them), the creative mind and heart behind Familiar Cat Café. I’m a queer, disabled Korean adoptee, an oracle card reader, and devout humanitarian. My journey has been one of self-discovery, healing, and embracing the magic in everyday life. I created Familiar to blend my passions: community, creativity, and connection. I hope to share the same sense of intention and comfort that guided me to this moment.

As a lover of cats, mystical vibes, and genuine healing, I’ve always wanted to share a space with kindred spirits. It’s not just a café; it’s a sanctuary for cat lovers, seekers of magic, and those looking for a place to simply be. Whether you’re here for a card pull, a cup of warmth, or the purr of a furry friend, I’m so excited to welcome you to my world.

Mission

At Familiar Cat Café, our mission is to create a unique space where intention meets connection. I believe in fostering a sense of belonging, not just for humans but for our feline companions, too. By offering delicious drinks paired with a touch of magic, we aim to nourish the body, soul, and spirit. Each cat here will be adoptable, giving both our customers and our furry residents a chance to find their forever homes.

Familiar as more than a café or cat lounge. It’s a community hub where kindness and creativity flourish. Our dream is to inspire moments of joy and introspection, whether through a coffee paired with an oracle card or by watching a cat find a loving home. Rooted in inclusivity, self-expression, and care for all living beings, Familiar strives to leave an imprint of magic and meaning in every visitor’s life.

 FAQs

  • I am currently exploring locations in Cedar Rapids for the perfect place for the cat café. While I don’t have one picked out currently, I plan to open by the end of 2025.

For now, please visit our Online Store to support bringing Familiar Cat Café into reality!

  • I am working to partner with a local animal shelter. The café will care for resident cats that are waiting to be adopted. We will also assist customers with the adoption process.

  • There will be a tiered payment structure to enter the cat room determined by how long you choose to visit.

60 mins will be available by online reservation and walk-in.

15 and 30 min walk-in only options will also be available.

Children within certain age limits may be discounted or free - still working to figure this part out.

There will be a limit to how many people can be in the cat room at one time - determined by the size of the room and city regulations.

There will be rewards punch cards for both cat room visits and café drinks.

  • The front of the café will be where customers can purchase refreshments. There will be tables and chairs and ideally a view the cat room. This would allow people to visit the café and view the cats without having to interact with them if they choose not to do so. This portion will also house the gift shop featuring locally sourced art and products. These items will feature feline, nature and spiritual themes.

The café will host public, private events and fundraisers

    Public Events:

    • Events will feature cat education, relaxation, and/or spiritual themes. Potential examples include family/kid story time, “cat nap,” cat safety, group meditation, group sound healing, etc.

    • Customers will be able to purchase tickets online or in person prior to these events on a first come first serve basis. Price will include the experience plus price of one free drink per person.

    Private Events:

    • Group events (think birthday parties, team building, etc) will include 60 minutes in the cat room, beverages for each person, and cat treats. Upgrades available for an additional price include reserved seating in the café before/after the event and oracle card readings for adult guests.

    • Pricing will vary depending upon week day or weekend reservation.

    Fundraisers:

    • Schools and organizations may hold fundraisers at the café on a predetermined day. For a portion of that day the fee for cat room entry will be “free-will donation.” All money collected during that time will be given to the school or organization.
